Dr. Audrey Chung

Audrey Chung is a dynamic award-winning conductor and music educator from South East Asia. Audrey has graduated with a Doctoral of Musical Arts, major in Conducting from Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California, U.S.A.  She is a recipient of the Department Scholarship and Academic Outstanding Award.  Prior to her arrival in Los Angeles, Audrey has been the conductor of Singapore Bible College Chorale and music director of Queenstown Baptist Church, conductor of Ang Mio Kio Secondary School and Yishun Town Secondary School Choir in Singapore.  Her choirs have been touring in Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China, New Zealand and Europe.

 

At the 2008 8th World Symposium on Choral Music in Copenhagen, Audrey was the only Asian conductor selected out of the four conductors worldwide to conduct at the master class of world-leading conductor Simon Hasley.  Her school choirs have received outstanding result at the Singapore Youth Festival 2011 – Ang Mo Kio Secondary School Choir has obtained its first Gold Award with Honor and Yishun Town Secondary School Choir has obtained its first Gold Award, which marked both schools’ history. In the last choir competition in Bratislava in June 2012, her school choir has obtained the Gold Award with the highest score of the whole festival.  In 2014, Audrey received the Jury Award at the Black Sea Orchestra Conducting Competition.  

 

As a choral music and music educator, Audrey has taught Choral Conducting Diploma and Certificate Programs at Te Deum Music Workshop in Malaysia and invited as adjunct lecturer of conducting for the degree program of Singapore Bible College.  In 2017, she was one of the judges at the Asia Pacific Choral Festival in Singapore.  She is frequently invited as guest speaker or conductor at various choral music and music camps and workshops in China, South East Asia, New Zealand, Spain and USA.

 

Partnering with various orchestras and choirs in the USA, Europe and in the Asia Pacific, she has conducted Dvorak Symphony No. 8 and No. 9 the New World, Mendelssohn Symphony No. 2 and No. 5, J.S. Bach Magnificat and Cantatas, Brahms Symphony No. 4.  

 

Born in Sarawak Malaysia, Audrey received her Bachelor of Church Music, major in voice from the School of Church Music of Singapore Bible College.  She studied voice and conducting with Mr. Lee Chong Min in her early years.  She then completed her Master degree in Choral Conducting at Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California.  Audrey studied instrumental conducting under Professor Larry Livingston and choral conducting under leading choral conductor in North America - Dr. William Dehning, Dr. Magen Solomon, professor Donald Brinegar, Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe and Dr. Nick Strimple.  She studied voice under Cynthia Munzer, Jonathan Mark and Shirley Fox.
